The Tigers have had a bid, believed to be for around £200,000, accepted for Legia Warsaw’s Slovakian goalkeeper Dusan Kuciak and are close to completing a deal for Manchester United’s Nick Powell.

Kuciak, 30, who has played 131 times for Warsaw since 2011, is a former West Ham loanee and is seen as back-up to Allan McGregor and Eldin Jakupovic, who was given an outing against Bury in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Bruce is also confident of completing another deal with the Old Trafford club, bringing in Powell on loan with a view to a permanent move in the summer.

Striker turned midfield player Powell, 21, was bought from Crewe Alexandra for £3m in the summer of 2012 and has represented England at Under-21 level.

Bruce said after Saturday’s game at Gigg Lane: “I wouldn’t be bringing him in if I didn’t think he could enhance us. Last season we had four or five players go down with long-term injuries so we’ve got to guard against that.

“We have a nice mixture of youth and experience and he would be one of those younger ones. All the younger ones who have come to the club have certainly helped, especially the ones from Man U - Chester and Brady come to mind - so let’s hope Nick can join us and come and help us.”

Leeds United are confident they can keep hold of England Under-19 international midfield player Lewis Cook following Saturday’s FA Cup triumph at Bolton and despite interest from Premier League Bournemouth.

Leeds head coach Steve Evans may make a late bid for a striker, having seen a bid for Barnsley’s Sam Winnall rejected at the end of last week.

After a home defeat to Cardiff, which leaves them just seven points clear of the Championship drop zone, Huddersfield Town head coach David Wagner said after four games without a win: “We are looking at some possible signings, but, as I have said, they must benefit us in the long term.”
