Yorkshire Amateur: Qasim treble helps Athletico sink rivals in 12-goal thriller

Three weeks after defeating champions Farsley Celtic Juniors, the former Spen Valley League side tore into a 7-0 lead before taking their foot off the pedal as Beeston netted twice.

But Athletico had already done more than enough to achieve their second victory of the campaign with Qasim’s treble supported by braces from Hassan Khan and Shamraj Hussain plus a goal each from Mohammed Raaj and Saad Abbas.

The success lifted Athletico to seventh with Beeston dropping to fourth bottom.

With top two Leeds Medics & Dentists and Drighlington on cup duty, Alwoodley closed the gap as a 3-2 success at eighth-placed Grangefield Old Boys sent them third and only behind the top duo on goal difference.

Jack Kitson fired Grangefield in front but after Damir Mulavdic suffered a tendon injury, substitute Callum Armstrong drew Alwoodley level on the stroke of half-time.

Dan Ashton then scored one and set up another for Alex Baddams to put the visitors 3-1 up but Grangefield’s Shane Gaunt then netted after good work by Matty Benson to set up a grandstand finale.

But two magnificent saves from man of the match ’keeper Luke Chadwick and the intervention of the crossbar kept the hosts at bay.

Alwoodley have played one game more than Drig and two more than Medics.

Stanley United moved fourth with a 3-0 triumph at second-bottom Stanningley Old Boys.

Matthew Williamson, Josh Whiteley and Kieran Wright all bagged a goal apiece.

Champions Farsley climbed to sixth by edging a 4-3 verdict at home to St Nicholas who remain bottom and without a win.

Danny Lyons gave Farsley an early two goal lead but new St Nick’s recruit hit back with his own double to give the division’s bottom side hope.

But Farsley twice hit Nick’s on the break in the second half as Lyons completed his hat-trick before Joe Firth’s screamer notched Celtic’s fourth.

Yousef Tashani hit back to keep Nick’ss in contention but ultimately to no avail.

Gildersome Spurs Old Boys moved top of the Championship by outscoring former leaders and visitors Calverley United 7-4.

The returning Steve Wales helped himself to a brace but Ben Keedy took centre-stage with a hat-trick, also supported by strikes from Johnny Hunt and Mark Suffield.

Calverley dropped to second on goal difference despite netting through Thomas Atkins, Josh Debenham, Matty Wilson and Jordan Williams who struck from the penalty spot.

Mount St Mary’s moved up to fourth as a first-half strike from Matthew Kingswood condemned bottom club visitors Wortley to a 1-0 defeat.

Collingham Juniors Old Boys stayed in sixth after a 3-1 loss at Leeds Independent who rose to seventh. Collingham led 1-0 at the break through Richard Metcalfe but second-half strikes from Kwame Westerman, Abishaiaa Blair and Marlon Richards turned the game on its head.

Leeds Medics & Dentists Reserves hauled themselves out of the bottom two with a 3-2 victory at home to eighth-placed Shire Academics.

Shire led 1-0 at the break thanks to an Alex Cookson strike but after Tiwonge Nyirenda had equalised, Medics took the lead through a Jack Helliwell penalty awarded for a foul on Nyirenda.

Shire levelled with a 70th-minute header from Jordan Talbot but with time running out a quickly-taken Medics free-kick led to Jonathan Cattrall bagging a late winner.

In Division One, Ealandians Reserves moved top with a 3-2 success at bottom club Alwoodley Reserves thanks to goals from George Haigh-Gill, Chris Marsh and Jonathan Pickles. Rothwell also climbed to second with a 4-1 triumph at former leaders Collegians who dropped from first to third though only one point separates the division’s top three.
