West Yorkshire League: Robin Hood Athletic on right track after first win in seven
Robin Hood Athletic look to have their Premier programme back on track after notching their first win in seven outings on Saturday.
The 2-0 success over fourth-placed Boroughbridge - who recorded only their second defeat of the season at Athletic - came courtesy of goals from Joseph Clulow (in the first half) and Stephen Hancock.
Mid-table Headingley were no match for third-placed hosts Horbury Town who triumphed 2-0 after taking a first-half lead.
Leaders Beeston St Anthony, meanwhile, need not to lose by 11 goals tonight when they entertain Field to secure the Premier crown.
In Division 1, it was an absence of fixtures that made for interesting reading after the weekend as games between third-placed G&C Hartshead and East End Park, and Wetherby Athletic and Salts were postponed while home walkovers were awarded to second-placed Kirk Deighton Rangers against Shelley and Wetherby’s forthcoming June 5 fixture also against Shelley.
It all means Rawdon OB stay top, four clear of Rangers and six ahead of Hartshead.
Elsewhere, Aberford Albion drew three apiece with Otley Town thanks to home-side goals scored by Edward Dry, Joshua Haigh and Liam Thompson, and Pool AFC played out a 1-1 draw with visitors Wyke Wanderers.
Brighouse Sports, meanwhile, took a huge step towards securing the second-division title with a 3-1 ‘home’ win over third-placed Kellingley Welfare First, who hosted the encounter.
Swillington Saints Welfare aim to finish second in the standings but the third and fourth places could shuffle after this coming Saturday’s fixtures when Kellingley entertain Altofts and Old Centralians First travel to Laund Hill FC First.
