West Yorkshire League - Field and Ilkley battling at top of Premier Division

Field and Ilkley are setting the pace at the top of the West Yorkshire League’s Premier Division after less than a handful of outings so far this season.

The pair have 12 points from four matches with Field topping the ladder on goals difference.

Both enjoyed relatively comfortable away victories last Saturday to underpin their early-season superiority.

That said, the chasers - Horbury Town and Beeston St Anthony’s - are only three points off with fourth-placed Saints also holding a game in hand, which is also true of fifth-place outfit Hall Green United.

Field hit hosts Huddersfield Amateurs - currently propping up the table with no points - for six, but the top-flight strugglers did score three goals in reply which suggests Field’s grip at the top might not be as firm as some fear.

Ilkely Town, meanwhile, tucked away a couple of goals while nilling hosts Knaresborough Town.

Elsewhere, regular pre-season favourites Carlton Athletic saw off third-placed visitors Horbury Town 3-1.

Warren Carr, Andrew Payne and Nathan Dixon were on target for Athletic, while Saif Akbar netted for Town.

Robin Hood Athletic led visitors Boroughbridge 2-0 at half-time and doubled their tally without reply in the second half.

Sherburn White Rose hosted a seven-goal humdinger with visitors Hunslet.

Labi Adeniran and substitute Josh Glenn (2) grabbed the goals for Sherburn, but Kieran Corley, Omri Linfoot (2) and Matthew Pallister ensured Hunslet secured maximum points.

Billy Mole hit a hat-trick as Hall Green United edged their way towards the upper echelons of the top flight.

United saw off hosts Whitkirk Wanderers 5-3 with Tom Fowler and Jack Haigh also on target for the visitors.

Martin Dixon, Charlie Stephens and substitute Scott Jones netted for Wanderers.

It’s a case of as you were at the top of Division One with leading lights Salts and Oxenhope Recreation playing out a 1-1 draw.

Salts lead the way after four matches with 10 points with Rec snapping at their heels in second just a point adrift.

Nicholas McNally and substitute Louis Fialdini were the matchday scorers.

Elsewhere, Craig Hird netted the winner for Aberford Albion with a close contest with visitors East End Park.

Otley Town claimed their second win in four games to move within four points of top spot.

Brandon Hammond (2) and Mitchal Lambert-Tuthill were on target in a 3-1 win over visitors Shelley.

Featherstone Colliery were outgunned at Rawdon Old Boys, 4-0.

Eliot James Goldthorp, Lewis Nightingale (2) and substitute James Brennan scored for Rawdon.

Anthony Walsh struck twice as Wetherby Athletic came from a goal down at half-time to draw with visitors Pool AFC for whom Oliver Metcalfe and Harry Norris were on hand to tuck the ball in the back of the Wetherby net.
