West Riding County Amateur: Sweet strikes from Pleasance strengthens Salts grip on top spot

Salts strengthened their hold on top spot in the Premier Division with a 2-0 victory over Brittania Sports. Joe Pleasance scored a second-half brace as Salts moved five points clear, writes THOMAS RITCHIE.

In a crucial battle between second-placed Golcar United and third-placed Route One Rovers, visiting Rovers eased to a 3-0 victory to move above their opponents. Khurram Shazad, Hassan Ali and Usman Hussain were all on target.

Thornton United hung on to win a thriller against DRAM Community FC 5-4, after leading 4-1 at the interval. Brendan Maltby struck a brace with Ryan Canning also on target, with Kalvyn White, Marcus Paul, Tony Smith and Kaylem Billy finding the back of the net for struggling DRAM, who are just three points clear of bottom-placed Wakefield having played eight games more.

Wibsey moved level on points with Campion after inflicting a heavy 5-2 defeat on their opponents. Tariq Hussain’s and Jahro Parchment’s strikes were not enough, as braces from Lee Smith and Jack Holland, and an Arron Magree goal won it.

In Division 1, league leaders Ovenden West Riding were a class apart from bottom side Bradford FC, winning 16-0.

Damian Randall was the star of the show, scoring five goals, whilst John Booth also found the back of the net four times.

Mat Jones and Hayden Kerris added braces, with a strike from Graeme Sides and an Andy Butterworth own goal helping the visitors to victory as they scored 11 second-half goals.

TVR United moved into the top half of the table as they won an enthralling contest against Hunsworth 5-4.

Faisal Shabir hit a brace, with Asif Iqbal, Danny Hussain and Jinaid Taj also on target for the hosts.

Hunsworth found the back of the net through Alex Gaunt, Ryan Templeton, Cameron Whalley and Jack Cooper but ultimately fell just short.
