West Brom v Leeds United: Kemar Roofe insists a strike against his former club would be "just another goal"

Roofe began his career at West Brom and will get the chance to go back to his old side when Leeds United meet the Baggies in a televised Championship clash on Saturday.

Albion worked with Roofe from the age of six but allowed him to leave for Oxford United three years ago without him making a senior appearance and without him appearing in a competitive fixture at their stadium.

He went on to win the League Two player-of-the-year award in his first and only season at Oxford, attracting the attention of Leeds who paid £3m to sign him 12 months later.

Roofe is on a hot streak of form with seven goals in 11 appearances this season and he has established himself as first-choice centre-forward under Leeds head coach Marcelo Bielsa.

But the 25-year-old insisted he would take no special satisfaction from finding the net on Saturday, telling Leeds’ official website: “It would be just another goal. It doesn’t matter who I score against or how they go in, it’s just about helping the team to win.

“I was at West Brom from the age of six and I left when I was 22, 23 so I spent most of my life there. I learnt a lot and had most of my football education there, which has played a major part in my career.

“It’ll be good to go back to The Hawthorns. I’ve waited a long time to play there in a professional match. I’ve still got the majority of my family in the area, so I’m sure it will be packed at the ground with them.”
