Marco Silvestri

Scott Wootton will take the blame for the own goal but Silvestri’s dithering as a cross flew through his box did nothing to help him. 5/10

A nightmare of a blunder and a moment which merely drew more attention to the fact that Wootton at right-back isn’t ideal. 4/10

Giuseppe Bellusci

Much better than his last appearance at Vicarage Road. Coped well in the face of Deeney who had his moments but played well below his best. 7/10

Sol Bamba

No way through for Lewis Cook.

Not a selection which Evans wanted to make but Bamba had his strongest game in a while and was guilty of only the occasional slip. 7/10

Charlie Taylor

Excellent at both ends of the field. Dealt with plenty of Watford pressure and carried United’s threat on the left wing. 8/10

Liam Bridcutt

Determined enough but the own goal burst the balloon and all United’s effort before then was wasted. Faded after that. 7/10

Toumani Diagouraga

Dominant in parts but the possession and territory Leeds created came to nothing time and again. It’s a glaring problem. 6/10

Stuart Dallas

Had the odd shot but a central midfield role doesn’t seem to suit him. Looked tired when he came off. 5/10

Lewis Cook

Ran himself ragged and broke up Watford’s play repeatedly but couldn’t find that touch of class in the moments when space presented itself. 6/10

Souleymane Doukara

Gave Watford a bit of trouble and saw the odd chance but in general the hosts kept him at arm’s length. 6/10

Mirco Antenucci

Games are starting to pass him by a bit. It wasn’t that Antenucci looked wholly peripheral but his influence wasn’t strong enough. 5/10

Substitutes:

Alex Mowatt (for Dallas, 61) - A player who last season might have come on and turned the tie. Didn’t see enough of the ball to do that. 5/10

Lee Erwin (for Antenucci, 83) - It has to be said that without Chris Wood, Erwin looks more like a centre-forward than anyone else. 5/10

Jordan Botaka (for Diagouraga, 86) - In the squad because of an injury to Carayol. Did next to nothing in his short time on the field. 5/10
