Guiseley produced a fine performance in National North to leave Spennymoor Town with a 2-0 win last night.

After the match, joint-manager Marcus Bignot said: “Obviously we are all delighted with all aspects of this, we’ve been building towards that, we played well, have got a good win against a side who are always up there.

“The clean sheet, the two goals, I’m just really pleased for the boys.”

The Lions made a positive start to the game, Jonathan Wafula had the opening chance for the visitors, when a throw into the area found the forward who just fired his shot wide of goal.

Guiseley took the lead with 25 minutes gone, smart play by Adam Haw found Andy Kellett, who took a touch and fired his effort low into bottom left-hand corner.

The Lions came close moments later to doubling their advantage, Nathan Newall was fed through and Spennymoor defender Nathan Buddle had to produce a fine challenge to stop him getting his shot away.

Spennymoor had their only real opportunity of the first half just before the break when ex-Guiseley midfielder Jamie Spencer crossed to Jason Kennedy, he had time but headed well wide.

Prince Ekpolo had the first effort of the second-half seeing Town keeper Dale Eve parry to Lewis Hey but bodies were in the way to block the effort wide.

The hosts started to get a bit of a foothold in the game, with possession being maintained high up the pitch for a spell.

When a corner wasn’t cleared, Buddle was well placed to get an effort away but he wasn’t able to control his shot and it went wide.

Guiseley though secured the three points thanks to a poor clearance from the home side with Wafula gaining possession and Gabriel Johnson scoring.

Bradford (Park Avenue) rescued a point thanks to Lewis Knight’s 92nd-minute equaliser at AFC Fylde.

Avenue led through Brad Dockerty (3 mins), Fylde levelled and then went 2-1 up before Knight’s equaliser (30) and again the hosts went in front before Knight’s late effort.
