That rules the Spaniard out of this Sunday’s Barclays Premier League trip to Southampton as well as next Wednesday’s semi-final second leg against Real at the Bernabeu.

Midfielder Yaya Toure is back in training after a thigh injury but will not feature this weekend while forward Samir Nasri has recovered from a muscle problem and will be in the squad at St Mary’s.
