MATCH-WINNER: But Pablo Hernandez hailed the defensive work as key to Leeds United's 1-0 victory at Sheffield United.

Hernandez bagged the only goal of the game eight minutes from time after an awful error from Blades 'keeper Dean Henderson who gifted the ball to 18-year-old substitute Jack Clarke in his own box.

An ice cool Clarke squared the ball to Hernandez who provided the finish to seal a 1-0 victory that sent Leeds two points clear at the top of the Championship following their first win at Bramall Lane since April 1992.

But Hernandez said United's defensive work was the key to the victory with Leeds keeping a clean sheet despite losing centre-back and captain Liam Cooper to injury in the first half.

Cooper was replaced by 20-year-old Finn Aapo Halme who helped keep out the Blades in just his second game for Leeds.

"It was a massive win today," said Hernandez.

"We knew it was an important game for us and a difficult game.

"Sheffield United play very good and it's difficult to win in this stadium.

"But we did a serious game, we did some massive defensive work and this is the key today I think."
