Saturday Cups round-up: Four-star YMCA offer no room for manoeuvre

Daniel Naidole bagged a treble for YMCA who are second in the County Amateur Premier with just one defeat from ten games.

Wayne Shooter also netted as the visitors cruised into the quarter-finals with Ealandians – who are fifth in the Yorkshire Amateur League Premier – guilty of missing too many chances.

Elsewhere, Beeston St Anthony’s Reserves experienced more cup heartache with a 1-0 loss at Golcar United Reserves in the West Riding County FA Challenge Trophy fourth round.

Beeston have won ten games out of ten in the West Yorkshire League Alliance Division One but suffered their second cup loss in three games following their District Cup defeat at Stanningley Old Boys Reserves in their last game before Christmas.

Golcar are second in Division Two of the West Riding County Amateur League and are now through to the Trophy’s las 16.

In the third round of the competition, West Yorkshire League Alliance Division Two side Carlton Athletic Reserves progressed with a 4-1 success at home to Huddersfield Amateur Reserves.

Honley also booked their place in the last 32 with a 4-1 success on penalties after a 4-4 draw at fellow West Riding County Amateur League side Route One Rovers.

A Hassan Ali double plus a goal each from Shoaib Iqbal and Zohaib Iqbal were not quite enough for Rovers who put up a fine fight against a side one division higher than them,

Away from the County sphere, West Yorkshire League Alliance Division One side Leeds City Reserves cruised into the Leeds & District FA District Cup semi-finals with a 5-0 romp at matchday hosts Amaranth of the Yorkshire Amateur League.

A Joe Dixon double plus a goal each from Luke Norman, Mark Ferguson and sub Jason Miller booked City a semi-final with last season’s beaten semi-finalists and YAL Championship side Alwoodley Reserves on February 20.

In the Leeds FA Senior Challenge Cup, Wakefield League top dogs Beechwood Gate also edged an intriguing clash 4-3 at West Yorkshire League side Hunslet Club AFC.

A Bracken Edge semi-final with Leeds City now awaits with Carlton Athletic meeting Whitkirk Wanderers in the other last-four clash as Beechwood stand alone among three West Yorkshire League sides.

In other highlights, West Yorkshire Premier side Wyke Wanderers scraped past struggling Division One visitors Thornhill 4-2 after extra-time in a second round Heavy Woollen FA Wheatley Cup clash.

The West Riding County Amateur League’s Lower Hopton cruised into the third round with a 6-1 thrashing of visiting AFC Ossett.

A Nathan James hat-trick was supported by a goal each from Declan James-Thomas, Danny Ryan and Clive Stewart.

Salts progressed in the Bradford FA Saturday Senior Cup with a 4-1 victory at home to West Horton.

Shelley also romped in 7-0 in their District Cup clash at Heywood Irish Centre

SATURDAY ROUND-UP

LITTLETOWN Reserves had no answers to thriving Thornton United who moved clear at the top of Division Two of the West Riding County Amateur League with a home 8-3 victory on Saturday.

John Selby and Daniel Cunningham both hit braces for Thornton whose Jamie Bairstow, Cameron Nelson, Danny Walker and Delroy White all added a goal each.

Littletown stay second bottom but Thornton are now four points clear of second-placed Golcar United Reserves who have a game in hand.

Bradford FC moved third in the division with a 3-1 triumph at home to sixth-placed Salts Reserves.

An Andrew Sadowskyj strike was in vain for the visitors.

One game was played in the Premier with Steeton moving eighth with a 7-1 thrashing of rock bottom visitors Hunsworth.

Lee Thompson and Lee Reilly both bagged braces, supported by strikes from Andrew Briggs, Dec Consoli and Graham Holmes.

In the Harrogate League, Bedale Town strengthened their Premier Division title claims with a 1-0 success at home to second-bottom Kirkby Malzeard.

Second-placed Bedale are now two points behind leaders Rawdon Old Boys and with a game in hand.

In Division One, Dalton Athletic moved sixth as a Duncan Padget treble inspired a 6-4 beating of a Pateley Bridge side down to seventh.

In Division Two, Addingham rose to third with a 6-1 cruise at second-bottom FC United Knaresborough.

Helperby United are up to fifth after a crusing beating of seventh-placed visitors Pannal Sports Reserves 7-1 as Chris Simpson scored a nap hand.

There were no games played in the Spen Valley League which has not seen a single game played since December 19.

SUNDAY ROUND-UP

LEEDS Ladies are through to the semi-final of the County Cup, writes DAISY YOUNG.

The Northern Premier Division One side pulled off a comprehensive 4-1 victory over Brayton Belles who sit seventh in the West Riding Premier Division. Leeds’ opening goal was scored by Nicole Jepson directly from a corner with just a few minutes on the clock. Then 16-year-old Demi Pringle scored twice before half-time, with the assists coming from Ellie Hall and Zoe Docherty.

Pringle took both goals with clinical precision and was unlucky not to have bagged a hat-trick after she saw two shots fly just inches wide of the bar early in the second half.

A spirited Brayton side managed a goal shortly after half-time but with Leeds dominating possession and passing comfortably across midfield the result was a foregone conclusion.

Debutant Sophie Jermy rounded off the scoring and made it four after her thunderbolt from the edge of the penalty area to see Leeds progress into the semi-finals for the second consecutive season. Left winger Ellie Hall was named player of the match by the LLFC Supporters Club having shown pace and determination out wide. Bridie Hannon captained the team in Emma Bentley’s absence due to illness.

Leeds Medics & Dentists have progressed to the quarter-finals of the League Cup after they pulled off a thrilling 4-3 victory over Hepworth United for whom strikes from Abbie Iggleden, Sophie King and a Leeds own goal were not enough. Medics were underdogs as they currently sit fifth in the First Division whilst their opponents Hepworth are fifth in the Premier. They will now face Bradford City A in the next round.

Just one game survived from the men’s Sunday league sphere with Burton Leonard sharing a thrilling 6-6 draw with visiting Shadwell in Division Two of the Claro League.

Mathew Wild and Chris Story both bagged doubles for Leonard whose Matthew Button and Kris Goodman added a goal each. James Rowley and Rob Hastings doubles up for Shadwell for whom Michael Parr and Sam Webber also struck.
