Leeds Combination League: Whitkirk Wanderers net place in Elland Road cup final

WHITKIRK WANDERERS booked a date at Elland Road through a place in the Leeds & District FA Sunday Senior Challenge Cup final with a 3-0 win over Colton AFC.

A double from Joe Stuart plus a Glenn Wood strike sealed a date with Leeds Combination League rivals Hope Inn Whites at the home of Leeds United.

But fellow Combination League side New Pudsey saw their West Riding FA County Sunday Trophy adventure end through a 3-0 loss against Hounds. Plenty of games were called off due to the weather but in the Leeds Combination League Jubilee Premier, Chapeltown Fforde Grene won 2-1 against bottom club Main Line Social. Daniel Sheriffe and Daniel Freeman both scored for Chapeltown whilst Kristen Williams grabbed a consolation for Main Line.

First hosted second as leaders HT Sports were held to a 2-2 draw by Hope Inn Whites whose Daniel Maw bagged a brace. The result saw the title momentum shift to Hope Inn as they now sit three points behind HT with two games in hand.

There were three games in Division One with the best of the action coming in the encounter between Commercial HQ and New Armley Blues. An own goal and strikes from Joe Fabian and Luke Chadwick weren’t enough for Commercial as they lost 6-3.

FC Sporting Pudsey beat Oulton Athletic 3-0 to put the pressure on South Seacroft at the top of the table, and a Luke Backhouse goal helped Halfway House Bramley to a 1-1 draw with The Woodcock.

Division Two was the place for goal-mouth action at the weekend as four goals from Richard Wheelhouse helped Hunslet Club to an 8-0 away victory at Crown & Anchor. Hunslet’s answer to Kylian Mbappé – Kilian Mabey – scored twice as did Mark Maloney.

The result saw Hunslet Club extend their lead at the top of the table to six points over FC Beechwood Sundays who won 3-0 away to West Yorkshire Falcons courtesy of a Ben Smith goal and a Joe Phillips brace.

Beechwood will soon turn their attention to the Luty Cup final where they will face the winner of this weekend’s postponed semi between Acorn (Bramley) and South Seacroft.

Division 3A leaders AFC Travellers recorded their second consecutive 5-2 victory, this time away to second-placed Northern Star FC. Gordon Booth and Jordan Webb both scored twice while Danny Hurley added a fifth to extend AFC Travellers lead at the top to an impressive twelve points.

The pick of the action in Division 3B came at Bramley Park where a hat-trick from Danny Robinson and a brace from Sam Kirk was enough to help Bramley Lions to a 5-2 victory over FC Armley Reserves.
