With the move 49ers Enterprises president Paraag Marathe - who was already on the board at Elland Road - has been named vice chairman in West Yorkshire amid a reported £50m cash injection.

San Francisco initially linked up with majority owner Andrea Radrizzani in the summer of 2018 but have moved to increase their involvement following promotion to the Premier League last year.

In reply to one fan, he said: "They [49ers] led the investment round, I’m investing along side them with a few others... can’t reveal more deals yet. But it’s a great group!"

He later added: "When you’re done watching Ted Lasso go check out 'Take Us Home' on Amazon narrated by Russell Crowe! I’m sure you’ll become a Leeds United fan."

Whites owner Radrizzani said of the new ownership structure: "We are delighted to welcome further investment into our club from 49ers Enterprises and I am confident that this latest partnership will help Leeds United continue to grow and develop into the team our supporters deserve.

“I have always been open to bringing partners on this journey with me, as long as these actions can benefit the long-term strategy of the club. Paraag and the team at 49ers Enterprises are uniquely positioned to collaborate with myself, Angus Kinnear, Victor Orta and our management team to help us achieve our goals.”
