Wolves a good model for Leeds United who will face different game against Aston Villa and star man Jack Grealish - Dominic Matteo

The short turnaround between the Wolves game and Friday night’s visit to Aston Villa will help Leeds United put the result to bed.

Sometimes the best thing is just to get back out there.

They didn’t do too much wrong against Wolves.

They started well, as we know they can do, and got people forward down both flanks.

But Wolves got back into it and got their goal, after Pascal Struijk’s unfortunate second-half slip.

I actually think Pascal has done okay, he has maybe just been a little naive at times with his defending.

Looking at the goal, yes he slipped and maybe picked up a knock at that moment, but he got back into a good position and he’s very eager to go and win that ball.

Sometimes when you’re a young player you’re drawn into that and you need to be aware of who is around you, see who is near and in support and decide if you really need to go in and challenge.

He’s still a little raw but there’s most definitely improvement to come.

You do notice the difference when Liam Cooper doesn’t play. When he doesn’t, I feel like Leeds aren’t quite as confident at the back. He’s the voice in the centre of defence and a real organiser.

In the Wolves defence, Conor Coady stood out.

He’s obviously growing in confidence with the England opportunities he’s getting and his reliability is massive for Wolves.

I’m so impressed by the way he plays. He does the basics really well and he’s a shining example of how to communicate with your team-mates and how to organise everyone.

Wolves are one of the most organised teams in the country and although I don’t think Marcelo Bielsa is doing anything wrong with the way he has Leeds playing, that forward-thinking style can come a little unstuck against well-organised teams.

People soon find out how you play and come up with gameplans, and for Wolves it worked.

They’re a good club doing everything right at the minute. They have some good young talent and they always bring talent in.

They’re a really good model for Leeds, although I know some Leeds fans might not like me saying that.

People will say they’ve spent a lot of money, they have that relationship with an agent, but I don’t care about that, they have a really good model.

When you have people as quick and direct as Adama Traore coming off the bench and such strong substitutions you can make, like bringing on Rúben Neves, then you have a bit of a fear factor about you. Their subs certainly didn’t weaken them, they have strength in depth.

I think that will come, for Leeds, in time, once new players have settled in a bit more.

Bielsa has got to find solutions in games like that, games that are going to be tight and it’s something the players also have to take responsibility for. It’s a game we shouldn’t have lost.

Raphinha coming in has added to Bielsa’s possible answers when teams are being stubbon, organised and asking questions of the Leeds attack.

Harrison didn’t have his best game against Wolves, maybe missing the City game has just left him needing a game or two to get back to his best, but Raphinha’s arrival puts him and Helder Costa under a bit of pressure. That’s not a bad thing, someone knocking on the door when you’ve not performed as you usually do is a great motivator.

Bielsa is very loyal to his players. Sometimes I think if a player is good enough, and he seems to like Raphinha, then just put them in and give them a chance.

He has been known to make changes quickly, he’s not afraid of a half-time substitution and with how important the wing positions are to Leeds’ style of play, Harrison needs to be on his game.

I still expect him to get the nod for Villa, which will be a different game, it will be more open, we might see more goals and Leeds will definitely get more chances.

Aston Villa have a lot of quality, Jack Grealish has become a proper player. I was on the fence a little bit last season but now I think he can go and be whatever he wants to be.

When you play against top players like him, people need to take responsibility, keep a constant eye on where he is on the pitch.

The positions Grealish takes up are so dangerous, he’s a clever player with a lovely style to watch. He’d probably suit a Bielsa team, he likes to get on the ball and make things happen.

Leeds still seem to have their confidence, their momentum from last season and they still seem united.

As the season settles down we don’t want to be on the wrong end of too many defeats, even if they’re narrow ones like Monday. You need to start stacking up the points and the next game is always another opportunity to do that.
