Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo on 'enormous problems' caused by Leeds United, his side's character and Raul Jimenez incident

Wolves overcame the 'enormous problems' posed by Leeds United to grow into a game they eventually won 1-0, said a delighted Nuno Espirito Santo at full-time.

The Wolves boss paid tribute to the way Leeds started the game but was satisfied with the way Wolves defended and how they adapted to the way the contest was developing.

Leeds were dominant in the first half and created chances, without giving Rui Patrício much trouble in the visiting goal.

"Leeds started very strong and caused us enormous problems," said Nuno.

"We adjusted it better as the game went on and kept on growing. The answer in terms of fitness was good.

"Until the end, we defended well. It was better in the second half, better with the ball and creating more chances."

Nuno praised the way his players competed physically and stayed level, before going ahead.

"It's about the identity, we know we have to have organisation and stay in the game," he said.

"The character of the team was evident, especially in the effort of the players. Again, the answer in terms of fitness and energy was much better. We had chances, good situations, before and after the goal. Raul was fortunate with his strike, but he had good situations before and we had a good goal ruled out. So, it was good.

"The clean sheet is a big satisfaction. This is the bounce back we desired, a second clean sheet.

"It's very difficult to play against Leeds, it's an amazing team, the energy of the players, the manager, the ideas, it's very difficult."

He was quick to dismiss any suggestion that the game came down to a tactical battle between him and Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa, giving all the credit to the players for creating what was largely an entertaining contest.

"Every Premier League game is a battle," he said.

"It starts with tactics but after it's about the players, they are demanding questions and answers. It's about the players, it's not a tactical situation, it's about them knowing their tasks inside the field."

Towards the end there was a flashpoint in front of the dugouts, when Raul Jimenez appeared to kick out at Leeds defender Robin Koch. It was missed by the match officials and there was no action from VAR, who had earlier ruled out a Wolves goal.

Bielsa had no comment on the incident and Nuno said little more.

"I didn't see the images yet and I was very far away from the incident," he explained.

"My advice is that everybody should get away and the referee should take responsibility."
