Johnson, who has seen his side lose their last three Championship games, was speaking following Saturday's 1-0 home defeat to Preston North End at Ashton gate.

City sit 13th in the league table and have an almost identical home and away record having amounted 11 points on both familiar ground and their travels this season so far.

Johnson though believes the trip to Elland Road to take on Marcelo Bielsa's Leeds United offers the perfect opportunity for his team to get back on track after their recent struggles.

"I think Leeds away is the best game you can have now," Johnson told Bristol Live.

"You’re the underdog and we seem to play very well as the underdog and not very well when we’re expected to win. Sometimes it’s cohesion, sometimes it’s tactical.

"The next one at Leeds has to be spirited. I’m quite glad it’s away because we’ve probably got a better chance of getting something away from home, for whatever reason."
