The 25-year-old Thorp Arch academy product put in what many believed to be a man-of-the-match performance for England in their opening Euro 2020 clash at Wembley.

Phillips was named in Gareth Southgate's Three Lions 26-man strong squad for the delayed tournament and was handed a starting berth on Sunday in the 1-0 victory.

The Yorkshire Pirlo, as he is affectionately know, recorded an assist for Raheem Sterling's winner and was England's best player in the capital as they made a winning start to Group D.

But who was the last player to be on the books at Elland Road and be called up to represent the Three Lions before Phillips?

The answer; Alan Smith.

Another of the Whites' academy products, Smith was used in a friendly against Sweden in 2004 while Leeds teammates Danny Mills and Paul Robinson were named on the bench though unused.
