Here's every you need to know about the highly-rated La Liga forward.

The basics

The 29-year-old is an experienced top tier striker, who has just finished his fifth season leading the line for Valencia - in this time he's featured in both the Europa and Champions League.

He's a powerful attacker, and is renowned for his hold-up play as well as his technical ability. The forward has also got a keen eye for a clinical through ball, and looks to bring his teammates into attacking opportunities wherever possible.

Who else is interested?

Arsenal, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid have all been linked with the player this summer, but seem to have been put off by his initially hefty, €50m asking price.

Where has he played before?

After bouncing between a number of prestigious youth academies such as Flamengo and Celta Vigo, Rodrigo found his way to Real Madrid in the early stages of his career, and went on to play for both the C and B side.

His big breakthrough came following a move to Benfica, where his goal-scoring prowess saw the club secure a domestic treble, and make it to the 2013/14 Europa League Final - this season saw him get snapped up by Valencia for €30m, following an initial season-long loan.

He's also - like fellow Spaniards Ivan Campo and Fernando Hierro before him - played for Bolton Wanderers, albeit on loan, following a spell on the books with the Galacticos. This brief exposure to English wasn’t the most successful, as the player scored just once in 17 outings for Owen Coyle’s side.

What is his goal-scoring record like?

Last season, he scored eight goals in 36 appearances for Valencia. He also made nine assists across the course of the season.

His most successful season as a player was in the 2017/18 campaign, where he netted 16 times in one La Liga season.

Any international caps?

Yes, and a fair few of them too. Despite being born in Brazil, he opted to represent Spain, after moving to the country at a young age.

He's got 22 senior caps, and has scored eight goals in the process, which isn't a bad return. He was included in the 2018 World Cup squad, but featured sparingly before the side's premature exit at the hands of Russia.

Rodrigo was quite the goal-machine in his days as an U21 international, where he netted 15 times in 16 appearances.

How do the bookies rate Leeds United's chances of signing him?

According to Oddschecker, the Whites are now 10/11 strong favourites to seal the deal. They're miles ahead of the likes of Sevilla (25/1) and Betis (33/1)
