While Nuno Espirito Santo has turned Wolves into Europa League contenders, Marcelo Bielsa performed a similarly transformative job at Elland Road, overhauling the squad he inherited and guiding the Whites to promotion.
We’ve taken a look back at their most recent clash – a 3-0 win for Wanderers in March 2018 – to see what became of Leeds’ starting XI that day.
7. Adam Forshaw
Injuries have been cruel to Forshaw in recent times, and he was limited to just eight appearances in all competitions last season because of a hip complaint. The 29-year-old is
nearing a comeback, however, and should have a big role to play for Leeds in the Premier League this season when he does return. Photo: George Wood
8. Kalvin Phillips
The poster boy for Bielsa’s Leeds revolution, Phillips has been converted into one of the finest deep-lying midfield distributors in the English game today. A pivotal talent in his
side’s long-awaited return to the Premier League, the Yorkshire Pirlo has since been rewarded with his first, second, and third senior international caps. Photo: Catherine Ivill
9. Pierre-Michel Lasogga
The German striker managed to hit double figures during his time on loan at Elland Road from Hamburg, but he is unlikely to live long in the memory for many Leeds supporters. Now turning out for Al-Arabi SC in Qatar, he has one goal every three games in the Middle East. Photo: Stuart Franklin
10. Hadi Sacko
Another who hardly pulled up any trees during his time with the club, Sacko spent spells on loan in Spain and Turkey before finally sealing his permanent exit from Leeds in July 2019. The Mali international has endured a tough time with new club Denizlispor, however, and recorded just four goals in 32 appearances last season. Photo: Ashley Allen
11. Samu Saiz
There were a few raised eyebrows when Saiz was loaned out to Getafe partway through Bielsa’s first season at Leeds, but the Argentine’s decision has since been more than vindicated. Sold in 2019 to Spanish second tier outfit Girona, the former Real Madrid youngster has found the back of the net just three times in 38 matches in his home country. Photo: Harry Trump
