Roy Hodgson’s men had taken an early lead in Saturday’s Premier League clash before Mateusz Klich put Patrick Bamford through on goal after 15 minutes.

The striker found the net but his effort was chalked off after VAR Mike Dean deemed it offside from Stockley Park.

The controversial decision prompted an uproar, with fans and pundits alike stunned at the call.

Pictures appeared to show that Bamford’s feet and torso were onside, with only a portion of his outstretched arm offside.

Indeed, McCoist and Stelling were left perplexed whilst watching the events at Selhurst Park unfold.

“I, for the life of me, can’t work out how VAR has disallowed it,” Stelling said.

“Jeff, I looked at it twice, he’s got to give a goal,” Rangers legend McCoist said. “I can’t believe he’s disallowed it.

“You know what? He’s disallowed a great goal. I’ve looked at it, I think he’s onside, I don’t think it’s offside mate.

“I think it’s a really, really, shocking VAR decision. Terrible. If you’re Leeds you’re going to be devastated. Not just because it gets you back in the game but it’s a proper, proper goal. I’m so disappointed.”

“We’re getting used to these disappointments,” Stelling countered. “For me, it’s a perfectly good goal and it’s ruining the game when you chalk off goals like that.

“Chris Kavanagh is the referee but it’s Mike Dean on VAR and he’s made that decision.

“I’ve just looked at a still of that offside decision… If that’s offside, what’s the world coming to?”
