He caught the eye of Vitória Guimarães and initially joined up with their B team in February 2016, before manager Sergio Conceicao handed the 23-year-old his first-team debut just a month later after an impressive first few weeks in Portugal.

The talented youngster predominantly plays on the right wing, and likes to cut inside onto his deadly left-foot, but he can also contribute in any of the other forward positions.

He’s certainly not afraid to take on an opponent one on one. Raphinha has lightning quick pace and possesses excellent skills. He is sure to scare any defender who faces him.

Raphinha caught the eye of Portuguese giants Sporting CP and made the switch to Cristiano Ronaldo’s boyhood club in 2018. The Brazilian shone in his one season at Sporting, netting nine times and assisting four goals in 41 games.

He made his move to Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais FC on the final day of the 2019 summer transfer window, a move which Rennes club president Olivier Letang at the time called the “biggest transfer in modern history of Stade Rennais”. He scored five goals and got three assists in the league in his first season in France, helping Rennes achieve their highest-ever position in Ligue 1, qualifying for the Champions League with a third place finish.

Raphinha played his final game for Rennes on Sunday, where he bagged himself a goal and got an assist in a 2-2- draw with Reims.

Raphinha impressed in his final appearance for the French side, as @LUFCDATA on Twitter shows.

The Brazilian has a never let die attitude, and always gives his all for the team. The fact he scored and assisted in his final game for Rennes on Sunday ahead of his imminent move to Leeds says it all.

Marcelo Bielsa can now add to the five wingers he already has at his disposal, six if you include Stuart Dallas who can also play as a winger, providing some strong competition in the attacking positions.

Raphinha brings vast amounts of experience from his time playing in some of Europe’s major competitions, including the Europa League. He will certainly be in contention for a starting place, and his arrival would surely leave the head coach with some selection headaches. Some fans may argue that Jack Harrison,23, and Helder Costa, 26, deserve to keep their starting place after adapting to life in the Premier League well.

Despite playing as winger, Raphinha has a keen eye for goal, scoring 44 goals and tallying up 26 assists in 177 appearances throughout his professional footballing career. Leeds are definitely picking up a very talented player.
