Leeds - who were promoted to the top tier of England's academy structure earlier in the summer - will be hoping they can produce a positive result as a newly-promoted side.

Will today’s line-up tell us anything?

Leeds host Crewe in the League Cup on Tuesday night at Elland Road and Marcelo Bielsa could opt to test out some of the club’s youngsters in front of a packed Elland Road.

That could mean, however, that a number of those involved this afternoon may seen reduced minutes or even be absent against Spurs.

Time will tell once the team sheets are in whether it may - or may not - tell us anything about the Argentine’s thought ahead of the midweek cup outing.

Kinnear backing Under-23s for success

Whites CEO Angus Kinnear wrote in his programme notes at the weekend he had full belief in United’s up and coming stars at Thorp Arch.

Here’s what he had to say ahead of the Everton showdown.

“I understand that some supporters were disappointed by a perceived lack of transfer activity, but we have not deviated from the strategy that has already delivered a ninth place finish in the Premier League after a 16-year absence,” he wrote.

“The first pillar was to do the majority of our business immediately upon securing promotion to build a squad that could guarantee our status and grow over a three-year period. Hence a £100m investment, which was unprecedented for a newly promoted team. The second was to retain the full squad into the second year and I can confirm that this summer we have vigorously resisted over £100m of interest in our marquee talent.

“This is a testament to both the financial commitment of Andrea Radrizzani and the 49ers, and the club’s ability to convince players players that their personal ambition is matched by that of Leeds United.

“The third element was to invest in the market where we believe we can deliver optimal value for the long term, hence the Under 23s recruitment takes so much of Marcelo and Victor’s focus.

“We are confident that players of the potential of Crysencio Summerville, Sam Greenwood, Cody Drameh, Joe Gelhardt and Lewis Bate will have a first-team impact across the coming season and will be at the heart of the club’s medium-term success.”
