The British broadcaster and telecommunications company offered customers the chance to pause subscriptions in March, following the outbreak of COVID-19 and subsequent suspension of football and other sports.

Here, we take a look at some of the key questions and issues...

WHEN WILL SKY START CHARGING ME AGAIN?

Sky is now planning to start charging customers again from June 19 as the lockdown in Britain begins to ease and with some sport to resume.

HAS THIS COME AS A SURPRISE FOR MANY?

Nick Baker, a TV expert at Uswitch.com, said: “Many Sky Sports customers who paused their subscription when live action stopped in March may have been surprised to see payments reappear on their June TV bill.

“Sky says that customers won’t be charged anything before mid-June, but it’s naturally disappointing that some consumers have had to find out this way.

“What this does mean, and the good news for many sports fans, is that the Premier League is due to restart on June 19, although this is still subject to change. However, Sky Sports won’t be able to offer the depth and breadth of football, golf, cricket, F1 and other sports that fans expect for some time.

“Many customers may feel hard done by if they have to pay full price for a service that isn’t what they signed up for. If you are not happy, raise your concerns with Sky in the first instance.”

WILL I STILL HAVE TO PAY IF SPORT DOESN'T RESUME?

The company say that customers will only start paying again if live sport has resumed by then - the plans have been revealed by Sky staff on its community forum.

WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH THE PREMIER LEAGUE CAMPAIGN?

The Premier League is currently planning to return next month, with the exact date to be decided this week.

Premier League clubs began a phased return to training for players and staff last week with a rigorous testing system in place to combat the spread of the virus.

And yesterday, clubs unanimously voted to resume contact training with only four more individuals from three sides having tested positive for coronavirus.

Phase two of 'Project Restart' will see players "train as a group and engage in tackling while minimising unnecessary close contact", the league said.

AND THE CHAMPIONSHIP?

Like the Premier League, the EFL - the Championship's governing body - has ramped up testing.

COVID-19 tests were carried out on 1,030 players and staff at second tier clubs between Monday and Wednesday of this week.

Three people connected with Championship clubs altogether testing positive.

The results, which show that well over 99.5 per cent of those tested were negative, is a further boost to the Championship’s restart plans.

The competition hoping to resume at some stage next month.

WHAT ARE SKY ACTUALLY SAYING?

A Sky Sports spokesperson said: "We are beginning the process of returning paused sport customers to billing, which requires sufficient time to communicate and implement fully.

"Should the live sport schedule change significantly, then we will absolutely look at alternate plans – no customers will be charged until mid-June at the earliest."
