And Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher issued an honest verdict on the first of those penalty decisions that went against Leeds United.

Playing their first Premier League game in 16-years, Marcelo Bielsa’s side saw referee Michael Oliver point to the spot after Salah's strike hit new-signing Robin Koch.

The effort appeared to hit the German’s leg before bouncing onto his hand. Oliver’s call was upheld by VAR and Salah put the Reds ahead with the first goal of the game.

“It took a deflection, Michael Oliver might not have seen that. It’s extremely harsh to give that as a penalty,” he said on Sky Sports’ commentary.

“I can’t believe that to be honest, I know the handball rule has changed but that’s actually really poor. It’s a harsh decision against Koch, in his first game.”
