BBC Match of the Day commentator Jonathan Pearce had some choice words for Leeds United’s defence during their clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side took the lead through former Blues man Patrick Bamford before being pegged back by in-form striker Olivier Giroud.

In the second half, a Kurt Zouma header gave Frank Lampard’s side the lead following some questionable Leeds defending, something which was reflected in Pearce’s commentary.

“Leeds switched off defensively, not for the first time today or this season,” Pearce explained.

“And for all their extravagance, and attacking intent and quality, their purring football, a lack of basic, basic football discipline has let them down.”

The commentator also had his say on whether Chelsea's second should have been disallowed for a push on Whites captain Liam Cooper.

“Leeds are complaining that Cooper was shoved to the ground, he was bumped by Giroud, but it was inadvertent.

“Giroud was looking the other way, there was contact but not enough for a foul for me.”

American international Christian Pulisic rounded off Chelsea’s victory with a goal in stoppage time, sending Lampard’s men top of the Premier League.

The result puts Leeds United in 13th position and eight points above the relegation zone with the bottom three still to play this weekend.

Leeds have conceded 20 goals in the top-flight so far this campaign, and sit just above Fulham at the bottom end of the goals against standings.
