'They have another gear' - Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhüttl on Leeds United's win at St Mary's

The Saints gave their visitors a difficult first half, roared on by 8,000 fans on the south coast, but goals from Patrick Bamford and Tyler Roberts saw the three points head back up north.

It was the second time this season that Leeds had taken a game away from Southampton in the second half and the win made it three on the bounce.

"Expected tough game with a very good first half from us but without the final goal, which was absolutely possible," said Hasenhüttl.

"We can't play much better than we did first half against such a physically strong team. It is normal that the performance then has more chances. I did get the feeling we gave a lot of chances away in the second half but you can see they have another gear we didn't find. This was the difference.

"The goal was well played, but a little unlucky for Alex [McCarthy]. It was tough, it was tight and we haven't been the team who scored. That's it. We have been a little bit closer to them but still not enough."

Hasenhüttl was content that the margin of defeat was fine and saw positives from his side's performance, even if the changes he made in the second half didn't quite have the desired effect.

"Maybe this time the subs haven't been that influential in the game," he said.

"Still a few good moments I think, we tried, stuck to our gameplan, took risks to play through the lines. We had a few good shots, a little unlucky not to score. A few inches. It's fair enough in the Premier League."
