That meant the Clarets would relegate Leeds if beating Newcastle United at Turf Moor and Leeds needed to out-point the Clarets to survive their second season back in the big time.
But Jesse Marsch's side completed the 'great escape' as the Whites recorded a 2-1 win at Brentford on a day when Newcastle provided the Whites with a huge favour by winning 2-1 at Turf Moor.

The season's second opportunity to strengthen the squad, but only for one month, unlike the longer summer window.
10. Tues, Jan 31 - transfer deadline (11pm)
The season's second transfer deadline day and hopefully no repeat of the drama which saw United's initial attempts to sign Dan James, above, collapse back in January 2019.
11. Mon, March 20 - international break
The season's second international break aside from the pause for the World Cup and by next March it will be all roads to Euro 2024 in Germany, above. The Premier League resumes over the weekend of Sat, April 1 and Sun, April 2.
12. Sun, May 28 - the final day
The final day of the Premier League season, later than normal due to the World Cup. Leeds United's fans will be hoping it is rather less stressful than this year's, above, but ultimately there were joyous scenes as the Whites survived.
