The Whites needed just a point on Friday night during their trip to Aston Villa to be crowned champions and earn promotion.

A stunning free-kick from Sam Greenwood and a Jack Jenkins strike lifted Leeds to victory after Aaron Ramsey pulled one back for the hosts late on following a Charlie Cresswell red card.

The 2-1 win saw Mark Jackson's squad officially earn a spot in the top division of England's elite academy structure.

United earned category one status for the first time just last summer and have blown away the second tier in Premier League 2 this season.

Leeds have won 17 out of their 22 games this term, which includes a nine-game winning streak from late November until early March.

"Thank you Adam [Underwood], coach Mark [Jackson], all the staff and the boys for another remarkable achievement. The Giant is awake," owner Radrizzani tweeted post-match.

A number of first team players also sent their congratulations on an achievement that will see the Whites take on the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and arch rivals Manchester United next year.

"Get to see how hard these lads work everyday and I’m delighted to see them rewarded," club captain Liam Cooper wrote. "The future is bright! Well done to Jacko, the staff and all the lads."

Stuart Dallas added: "Congratulations @jacko55555. Delighted for all the lads who have worked so hard all year."

And Luke Ayling said: "Well done lads. Great achievement!"
