'That's poor' - TalkSPORT pundit claims that Leeds United player could be in line for huge snub

TalkSPORT pundit Charlie Austin has claimed that Patrick Bamford “has to go” to this summer’s European Championships – but could miss out because he plays for Leeds United.

The Elland Road forward has enjoyed a stellar campaign in the Premier League, scoring 16 goals in 37 top flight outings.

The most recent of those strikes came in a 2-0 win over Southampton on Tuesday evening – a result that guaranteed his side a top half finish in their first season back in the top division.

Despite his impressive displays, however, Bamford is still yet to receive a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s England setup, but Austin believes that he is more than deserving of spot in the Three Lions’ plans this summer.

Speaking on talkSPORT, the QPR hitman said: “When you’re picking forwards, what do you want? Goalscorers.

"The only person that’s scored more than him is England captain Harry Kane which you expect, don’t you?

"Who’s the second? Bamford.

"So, you expect him to be in there. He almost has to go, but you understand why he doesn’t go.

"He scores the goals, so he’s ticked every box for him to be able to get into the Euros squad, but then you look at it and say that it’s easier to leave him out because he plays at Leeds.

"That’s poor.”

Speaking about the matter recently, Bamford vowed to keep pushing for a spot in the squad.

He said: "You need to do more than score goals to get into the England squad.

"But I've just got to keep trying and do what I can in the last three games and see what happens.”
