TalkSPORT pundit claims Premier League big guns are 'not even close' to Leeds United

TalkSPORT pundit Tony Cascarino has argued that Premier League big guns Arsenal are “not even close” to Leeds United in terms of their attacking quality.

The Whites and the Gunners are level on points going into the weekend, with both clubs vying for a top-half finish.

But despite having played the same number of matches, Marcelo Bielsa’s men have scored 13 goals more than their north London counterparts – a statistic which has left Cascarino criticising Mikel Arteta for his negative approach to games.

Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “The big surprise for me has been the style of play.

"I never imagined Arteta’s team would be so negative. They’re the lowest scorers in the top 10.

"They’ve got the same points as Leeds – they are not even close to resembling what Leeds are like as a playing style.

"Leeds have scored more than them, but Leeds have a real intent and they really try to produce openings with purpose.

"Arsenal sit off teams. I can’t believe that I’m watching a team that gets 11 behind the ball like they’re a team that have been promoted from the Championship, just offering nothing going forward.”

Despite outscoring the Gunners over the course of the season, however, Leeds have struggled a little in their two clashes with Arteta’s side this term.

Their first meeting ended in a 0-0 stalemate at Elland Road back in November, with the Whites slumping to a 4-2 defeat at the Emirates on Valentine’s Day after initially going four goals behind.
