Sunderland vs Leeds United early team news, Dominic Calvert-Lewin injury latest, weather conditions statement

Leeds United take on Sunderland at the Stadium of Light this afternoon.

Leeds United are back on the road this afternoon when they take on Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

Daniel Farke’s side are a week on from their 1-1 draw at home to Manchester United in which Dominic Calvert-Lewin cancelled out Bryan Mbeumo’s opener. That was a sixth game from seven in the Premier League which Leeds avoided defeat but they could do with picking up a win soon.

Rock-bottom Sunderland might feel like a good opportunity to do that but the Black Cats will be no pushover. Regis Le Bris’ side lost 2-0 at Bournemouth last weekend before a 1-1 Europa League draw at Lech Poznan on Thursday night, with recent home defeats coming against top opposition in Arsenal and Brighton.

Farke revealed a few potentially big injury blows for Leeds in his Friday press conference, the most concerning being Dominic Calvert-Lewin who is a major doubt with a foot injury after a painful tackle last weekend. The striker has missed a number of training sessions, as have Anton Stach (foot) and Noah Okafor (adductor) with all three facing a race to feature at all today.

With today’s game being a 4.30pm kick-off, we’ll have clarity on the trio when teams come out at 3.15pm. We’ll also be sure to keep an eye out on social media and around the Stadium of Light to see if we can spot anything sooner. On a positive note, Daniel James could return to the matchday squad but Joe Rodon remains out, eight weeks on from his hamstring injury.

It’s set to be a blustery one up on Wearside, with yellow weather warnings in place as Storm Boelo passes across the country. It’s going to be a cold one too but the Stadium of Light atmosphere, coupled with Leeds’ always brilliant away-day following, are sure to keep things warm inside the ground.
