Stuart Dallas holds up Granny Val shirt for Kalvin Phillips in Leeds United v Southampton game

Leeds United player Stuart Dallas has paid a touching tribute to Kalvin Phillips' late grandma after scoring against Southampton.

Dallas held aloft a Leeds United shirt with the words Granny Val emblazoned on the back after scoring in the 78th minute.

Leeds United beat Southampton 3-0 at Elland Road, with Patrick Bamford and Raphinha also making the scoresheet.

Val Crosby - whose appearance in the Amazon documentary Take Us Home turned her into a star in her own right - passed away shortly on Thursday (18) morning.

Affectionately known as Granny Val, she played a huge role in Phillips' life.

Phillips paid tribute to her in a social media post last week, saying: "Granny Val you will never know just how loved you really are.

"I am heartbroken to say that my grandma Val passed away this morning, I can’t put into words what you are to me and my family - the absolute Queen of our hearts.

"I just know how fortunate I was to have you in my life, she was an unforgettable person as I’m sure many of you know.

"I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for you and the heartbreak I feel now is incomparable, I’m just glad the world got to see how much you mean to me, and you got to experience how much of an impact you made on me and also other people from around the world which is something you always deserved.

"Rest in peace Gran, you will forever be in my heart."
