Stoke City duo set sights on Leeds United giant-killing after surprise Sunderland result

Stoke City pair Ryan Mmaee and Luke McNally are targeting back-to-back wins in the Potteries as Leeds United come to visit this week, after most recently seeing off promotion-chasing Sunderland at home.

The Potters had lost three home games in-a-row before Tony Mowbray’s Black Cats arrived at the Bet365 Stadium last Saturday. Goals from Mmaee and McNally saw off the north east club, who replied with a Jack Clarke goal of their own, however that was not enough to take anything from the game.

Previewing the midweek clash between Stoke and Leeds, the two home goalscorers have discussed the prospect of recording back-to-back wins for the first time this season, at the expense of Daniel Farke’s high-flying Whites. Leeds have lost just once in their last ten league matches and turned a two-goal deficit away to Norwich City on its head at the weekend. The team are very much in form and moved up to third in the table, while Stoke sit 20th following a sluggish start to the campaign winning just two of their last nine in the Championship.

“We need to keep going like that, keep the level high,” Mmaee said following the victory over Sunderland.

McNally, meanwhile, believes the momentum Stoke have generated following their Black Cats triumph will stand them in good stead for the arrival of Farke’s young side.

"I think you saw glimpses of quality but in the second-half we showed what a fighting team we can be and we just need to show that all the time now. Going into the next game, it's easier to gather momentum than off a loss.

"We need to use that in our power now and we're obviously playing one of the stronger teams next but I think we've shown in all the games here, Southampton they came here, that we can more than compete and we have to do that again on Wednesday," he told Stoke’s official website.

Leeds have won three of the last four Championship encounters between the two sides, including a 3-0 win in Staffordshire at the beginning of United’s promotion-winning 2019/20 campaign.
