United handed a start to loanee Jack Harrison at the club's training ground with the winger sitting out of this weekend's clash with parent club Manchester City.

Crysencio Summerville was also given his full debut for the club following the 18-year-old's recent move from Feyenoord.

It was the visitors who twice went close in the opening stages as Rumarn Burrell and Isaiah Jones fired volleys over the bar from inside the six-yard box.

There was also an early blow for Leeds as Joe Gelhardt limped off shortly after the twenty minute mark with Charlie Allen stepping off the bench for his Under-23s bow.

Both sides continued to cancel each other out for much of the encounter in what was a tight affair with few clear cut chances.

Charlie Cresswell saw a header saved before Greenwood and Allen forced Sol Brynn into action in the visiting goal.

Boro almost went ahead in the latter stages as forward Stephen Walker tested the palms of Elia Caprile.

The Teessiders then followed up the rebound as substitute Cole Kiernan hit a love drive which struck the outside of the post.

Leeds, though, despite seeing their opportunities limited in the second half broke the deadlock with just four minutes remaining.

Jack Jenkins produced a defence-splitting pass for Greenwood who beat the offside trap to find the back of the net off the inside of the woodwork at the first time of asking.

The late goal gave Middlesbrough no time to respond as Leeds made it back-to-back wins following Monday's triumph at Sunderland in league action.

United's development side will now prepare for next week's trip to Barrow in the EFL Trophy.
