United travelled to Lancashire looking to continue their strong end of season form and opened the scoring through Mateusz Klich just before the interval.

The Poland international curled an inch-perfect effort into the bottom corner from outside the box to signal the start of a clinical display from the visitors.

Jack Harrison gave Marcelo Bielsa's side a cushion after the break with a clever flicked finish from a wayward Gjanni Alioski shot before Rodrigo stepped off the bench in place of Bamford.

The club's record signing got in on the action quickly with a lovely deft finish to make it three before adding a fourth two minutes later, rounding former Leeds stopper Bailey Peacock-Farrell to fire into an empty net.

"Very happy for the goal and the victory," Rodrigo told BBC Sport as he made it three goals in two games.

"We are having an amazing season, we are playing excellent games.

"I always try to get in behind the defenders. We know they are a tough team and a top defence so I'm happy to get the two goals today."

Asked about his first goal and United supporters back at home, he added: "It was a very beautiful goal, the first one, good pass from Jack [Harrison], it was a tight space but [I] found a way to get the advantage and get the goal.

"We have an amazing group, good atmosphere during the week, the whole season was amazing for us after we got promoted last season.

"I'm very happy for the team and for the club and I hope the fans are proud of us this season."
