The Tractor Boys’ central midfield captain Sam Morsy will need to toe the line during Ipswich’s next game and penultimate fixture of the regular Championship season if he is to avoid a three-match suspension which could see him miss their final day meeting with Huddersfield Town.

Ipswich have Coventry City and Hull City in their next two, both away from home, both promising to be tight contests as the Sky Blues and Tigers chase a play-off spot.

Morsy is currently on 13 bookings for the season and will incur a three-match ban if he is cautioned in two of Ipswich’s three remaining matches. The 32-year-old’s availability could be an issue for Kieran McKenna’s side if they drop into the play-odds as once past ten for the season, accumulated bookings do not reset until the next season.

Cautions in each of Ipswich’s next two would mean Morsy is suspended for their game at Portman Road with Huddersfield on the final day, as well as the club’s next two domestic fixtures, whether that be both play-off semi-final legs, or in the Premier League next term.

Morsy has played 39 times in the league this season, scoring three and assisting five goals, whilst picking up 13 yellows which is typical of his combative style throughout his career. The Egyptian international is highly-regarded by the manager at Portman Road, as well as his teammates and would be a significant absence if he was to pick up a three-match suspension. Ipswich have failed to win three of the four Championship games Morsy did not feature in this season, including the reverse fixture against Huddersfield at the John Smith’s Stadium, which ended 1-1.

Leeds, meanwhile, have no such concerns with Ethan Ampadu on nine yellows the club’s most frequent booking recipient. Ordinarily a two-match suspension is incurred by players picking up ten yellows but an amnesty is reached after the completion of the 37th matchday meaning the Welshman is no longer at risk.
