The Magpies have won their last two outings in the Premier League, and will be looking to make it three on the bounce when they face the Whites for the first time in the top flight since 2004.
Steve Bruce’s men have endured a tough spell recently due to a spate of absences brought about by positive Coronavirus tests, but still managed to put in an assured display in a 2-1 win over West Brom at the weekend.
That result leaves the Toon Army with 13th in the table, one place and three points better off than Marcelo Bielsa’s men, but also with the luxury of a game in hand.
Bruce should be able to welcome back a couple of key players for Wednesday’s clash, but may have to rest a couple more.

7. Centre midfield - Jonjo Shelvey
Shelvey can struggle for consistency sometimes, but when he gets it right, there are still few players in the Premier League who can pass a ball as well as him. He was Bruce's stand-in skipper on Saturday, and he should feature at Elland Road. (Photo by Stu Forster/Getty Images) Photo: Stu Forster

8. Centre midfield - Isaac Hayden
Hayden was asked to slot in at the heart of defence on Saturday, with Newcastle still reeling somewhat from their struggles with Covid. The 25-year-old put in a brilliantly solid display, and Bruce will no doubt be eager to get him back into his more familiar role in the engine room as soon as possible. 9. Left midfield - Matt Ritchie
Ryan Fraser should available for the Magpies, and if Bruce wants a more natural ball-carrier in his ranks then he could opt for the Scot on the left. If, however, he prioritises good delivery and a little of extra protection for the out-of-sorts Lewis, then Ritchie should be the man. (Photo by Clive Rose/Getty Images) Photo: Clive Rose

10. Centre forward - Callum Wilson
Wilson has proven time and time again this season that he is a class act. Seven goals in 10 matches have gotten him off to a flyer on Tyneside, and he will surely be one of the first names on Bruce's team sheet. (Photo by Alex Pantling/Getty Images) Photo: Alex Pantling

11. Centre-forward - Dwight Gayle
One of the biggest headaches facing Bruce will be who to pair with Wilson. Joelinton has looked better in recent weeks, and did bag himself an assist at the weekend, but it was Gayle who won the game against West Brom with his late effort. The 30-year-old is a superior finisher to the Brazilian, and that could be enough for him to sneak his way into the starting XI. (Photo by Stu Forster/Getty Images) Photo: Pool
