Revealed! Leeds United player among worst in Premier League for referee run-ins

Given their high-octane style of play and relentless pressuring of opposition sides, Leeds United have a surprisingly good disciplinary record.

The Whites have picked up 45 bookings this term – the eighth-highest tally in the division, and 10 fewer than the top flight’s worst offenders, Sheffield United.

Fellow newly-promoted outfit Fulham are also near the top of the pile, with 54 yellows to their name so far this term.

But in terms of going in the book, Leeds actually fare relatively well.

Perhaps that’s not overly surprising given their preference for dominating possession.

Few sides come up to the Premier League and stamp their identity and authority on the division as well as Leeds have, and their average of 57.65% possession is a hallmark of that.

Still, even taking that figure into consideration, Marcelo Bielsa’s men do contest just over 88.6 defensive duels per game – nearly one per minute – and it’s a credit to them that they are not constantly having their names taken.

But that’s not to say that the Whites are completely without sin, and in terms of getting in trouble with referees, there is one Leeds player who has really stood out in 2020/21.

BettingOdds.com have ran the numbers on which Premier League players have made the fewest fouls for every yellow card they have received this season – or in other words, who gets their names taken by officials most often – and their findings make for interesting reading.
