Kalvin Phillips names England teammate who would thrive at Leeds United under Marcelo Bielsa

The Whites homegrown star is currently away on international duty with the Three Lions as they bid for Euro 2020 glory.

Phillips started alongside Mount in a three-man midfield during England's 1-0 victory over Croatia on Sunday.

Gareth Southgate's men opened up Group D with three points and are now turning their attention to a meeting with familiar foe Scotland later this week.

Phillips earned the man-of-the-match award for his role at Wembley as he provided Raheem Sterling with the ball for the winning goal.

The Yorkshire Pirlo, as he is affectionately known, was quizzed over his teammates at England in the aftermath.

He was asked which player he would most like to see at Elland Road under head coach Bielsa, with Ben White not an option having played with him previously.

“It's a hard one. I’d probably take Mason Mount ” Phillips told the Lions Den of the Chelsea playmaker.

“Me and Mason get on quite well. Just the way that he plays, the way that he presses from his position and some of the positions he gets himself into would suit Leeds United.

"He would take the manager on board, the way the manager works. He’d be a superstar if he comes to Leeds."

Phillips also discussed the quality of players in the England international set up, picking out the Three Lions skipper for special praise in training.

“I think the first day I came we did possession and it was seven v seven with a floater and Harry Kane was a floater, but it was one touch,” Phillips said.

“There were balls getting zung in at him at knee height and he was just popping it off with one touch – left foot, right foot, chest, head.

“I was just stood in the middle, and I was just in awe of what I was seeing.”

Southgate's men take on Steve Clarke's Tartan Army in the capital next on Friday night.
