Patrick Bamford learned a lesson the last time Leeds United took a winning streak into a Hull City game

The Whites striker was an injured bystander as a seven-game run of victories was snapped by a 2-0 defeat to the Tigers at Elland Road.

Bamford and Leeds have won their last six going into Tuesday's home game and he admits to overlooking Hull last time round – but that won’t happen tomorrow.

“I was in the stand and remember watching,” he said, of the December 29, 2018 clash he missed through a knee problem.

“To be honest, I went into the game thinking we’re going to win and it just shows you can never do that in football; each game presents a different challenge. Whilst there hasn’t been anyone that’s run away with it or jumped out ahead, there’s so many good teams in the league, they all have their difficulties.

“We’ve got to show respect to the opposition but also keep our confidence, without having over-confidence.”

Leeds, nine games unbeaten and just two points off the top spot, should be full of confidence, but what might prevent them from getting carried away with themselves is the knowledge that their last game was not their best.

Although Marcelo Bielsa’s men emerged from Saturday’s Yorkshire derby at Huddersfield with all three points and an 11th Championship clean sheet of the season, the squad were unhappy with their own performance.

Bamford is certain there is more to come from the side sitting second in the division.

“Probably the most complete performance we’ve seen this year was Middlesbrough, apart from that we’ve had patches where we were really good and patches where we’ve died down a bit,” he said.

“I know fans are crying out for us to put teams to the sword and stick four or five past them and we managed that against Middlesbrough.

“I still feel like there’s another one coming. We’re capable of more. Hopefully we can save it until the right moments.

“Whilst we’re picking up 1-0 wins away from home, you take them all day.

“Looking back at Huddersfield, as players we’ve spoken about it, we played terribly. We felt, coming off the pitch, it wasn’t one of our great games but we’ve come away winning 2-0.

“While we’re stumbling along, if you want to put it like that, the main thing is getting three points.”
