Patrick Bamford has described Leeds United's promotion celebrations as 'crazy' after the club secured Premier League status for the first time in 16 years.

Marcelo Bielsa's side earned passage into the top flight without kicking a ball in anger on Friday evening thanks to a favour from West Yorkshire neighbours Huddersfield Town.

West Brom were handed a shock 2-1 defeat by the Terriers which brought an end to United's Football League nightmare after the club suffered relegation in 2004.

The result sparked celebrations at Elland Road where the players had gathered to watch the game.

Thousands of supporters also descended on the club's home ground with players and staff seen leading chants long into the night.

Things got even better for Bielsa's men on Saturday afternoon as Brentford were beaten by Stoke City which handed Leeds the Championship title before their trip to Derby County on Sunday.

"It was crazy," Bamford said of the celebrations on Football Focus.

"All the boys secretly organised to watch the game at the stadium and we went there thinking West Brom were going to win. We were a bit surprised to be honest.

"It was pretty crazy. All the fans started gathering, it was a nice night.

"We got sent a video when the game finished of the coaching staff celebrating in the office. About 10 o'clock they all came over. We saw a side of the manager that we rarely ever see.

"I don't think it's fully sunk in for me what we've achieved.

"People have said we're going to go down in history for what we've done, but last night was probably only a small part of the celebration.

"I can only imagine what it means for people who have been life-long Leeds fans.

Asked about how Leeds will fair in the top flight, he joked: "To be honest I wouldn't be surprised if he's (Bielsa) already watched all the teams in the Premier League."

"He just loves football so much, he's always analysing."
