A fan-funded mural immortalising Leeds United promotion hero Pablo Hernandez has been unveiled in the city centre.

The artwork - which has been painted in just a week by local artist Adam Duffield - has been brought to life at the Duck and Drake pub in the heart of Leeds.

The mural is the first to be completed in conjunction with the Leeds United Supporters' Trust, who began a fundraising project earlier this year in a bid to create several lasting murals across the region.

LUST revealed plans to team up with a number of local artists following the recent success of "Bielsa the Reedmeemer" in Wortley and the "Champions" design at Elland Road, with the latter completed by Adam and United midfielder Mateusz Klich.

The final Hernandez artwork image was voted for by Trust members and was given the seal of approval by the magician himself.

The image depicts the moment of celebration following his crucial winning goal at Swansea City last season which proved to be a vital moment in the surge towards promotion to the Premier League after 16 years away for the club.

Clair Hufton, LUST board member, told the YEP: "We could've gone with a number of different things, like the team lifting the trophy at Elland Road.

"But when we talked to fans and our members it felt like everyone was in agreement that it was a single moment that everyone was going to remember forever.

"I think those last few games throughout the season, when Pablo kept coming on and digging deep, showed he was the star man.

"We're honoured to have been part of producing the mural and we hope supporters are proud too.

"We'd like to thank Adam for giving up his time to complete the artwork and to RIM Scaffolding for their help completely free of charge - we couldn't have done it without them.

She added: "We hope to create a mural tour across the city in future with plans for loads more - we already have ideas for around 10. We're solely relying on fan funds for this project, but the most important thing is for Leeds supporters to feel part of it."

Plans are in place already for future murals across the city - including a tribute in Pudsey to legends Norman Hunter and Jack Charlton, who sadly passed away earlier this year.

The artwork will celebrate the club's rich history and bring iconic moments back to life as well as celebrating past players and former glories.

The Trust also previously helped fund the iconic mural placed by the Gelderd Road underpass near United's home ground, which marked 25 years since the club lifted the First Division title under Howard Wilkinson.
