The Wales forward penned a new three-year deal at Elland Road on Wednesday, keeping him under contract in West Yorkshire until 2024.

Roberts made 27 appearances in the Premier League for the Whites last term, scoring once - a late season strike against Southampton - and bagging two assists in what was an up and down year.

Head coach Bielsa leaned heavily on the 22-year-old in the second half of the top flight campaign and it appears the Argentine was suitably impressed enough to award him an extended stay in LS11.

Roberts initially joined Leeds in January 2018 from West Bromwich Albion but suffered with injuries in the immediate aftermath of his arrival.

He has since, though, gone on to make 88 appearances for United across all competitions during his near three-and-a-half-year stay at the club.

Roberts celebrated his contract extension whilst preparing for a first major tournament of his international career with Wales.

Rob Page's men take on Switzerland in Baku to begin their Euro 2020 tournament on Saturday (2pm) before also facing Turkey and Italy in Group A.

Orta - who splashed out a little under £3m for his signature from the Baggies - admits he is pleased by his continuing development at Leeds.

“We are really pleased to see Tyler commit his future to Leeds United ” Orta said after Roberts had put pen to paper on a new contract.

“Ever since he joined the club, Tyler has grown to become a really influential member of the squad, making over 80 appearances.

“He is also a full Wales international with 14 caps and will be taking part in Euro 2020, which we hope will be a great experience for him.

“Tyler has continued to improve during his time at the club and still at a young age, I believe we have a lot more to see come from him in the future.”
