Potter's Seagulls are facing three games in less than seven full days with Sunday night's third round FA Cup clash at League Two side Newport County followed by Wednesday evening's Premier League clash at title favourites Manchester City (kick-off 6pm).

Less than three full days later, the south coast side then face another Premier League clash up north with Saturday's 3pm kick-off at a Leeds side who now have five days without a game after Sunday's 3-0 FA Cup defeat at Crawley Town.

Brighton, meanwhile, booked their place in the FA Cup fourth round by overcoming Sunday night's hosts Newport but only after being taken to extra time and penalties with the Seagulls progressing 4-3 on spot kicks after a 1-1 draw

Potter described the drama of the shoot out as "traumatic" but refused to moan about having to come through 120 minutes at the start of a very demanding week.

"It is what it is," said the Brighton boss, as quoted by Sussex Live.

"That is the competition. We can't complain about it.

"We knew that is where it is and we have got a week that is going to be tough but it was important to go through and show that ambition.

"Now we have to recover and prepare for a tough game on Wednesday.

"It is nice to go through. That is what we wanted to do.

"We knew it would be a tough match, we want to use it positively, we will try and progress in this competition and we have got a tough week now.

"We need to try and get three results. We have got the first one. Now we need to prepare for the next one which is Man City away.

"We will have to recover. That is life. That is what we will do from now until the game."
