“Leeds. Leeds. Leeds.

Then and now. A childhood dream to play at ER.

Peter Lorimer. The hardest shot in the world they said. Bremner! Wow.

I trained every day and tears and sweat and broken dreams.

Saturday at 4pm we took our dreams indoors. Match of the Day. When the Peacocks were on it was Christmas and new year all at the same time.

I grew. Got as far as Tooting and Mitcham United FC in London and Strømsgodset in Drammen, Norway.

Leeds was there but ups and downs.

I changed stage and wrote a play about growing up with football called ON THE BALL.

Childhood idol Peter Lorimer provided his autograph so I could print it on the theatre programs.

How I got to him some 20 years ago is a story of its own but when we finally met in person at Elland Road two years ago I was starstruck and he laughed as he remembered sending his signature off to Norway.

Not sure if he had seen me on the telly but he smiled politely as Dave Carrington of Leeds United Supporters Trust introduced me as such and such. No worries. Lorimer, a legend. My star. Still!

Leeds up. Leeds down. Leeds okay. Then came Bielsa. His reputation travelled faster than he could run and now we know that he does not suddenly get up and leave.

If the players trust the manager, miracles can be achieved. If the players are motivated, in shape and give up their ego for a common goal things could start to happened. So simple. One ball and 11 players. It’s not rocket-science.

And fans of course. Fans are needed. The ones that follow in ups and downs and also follow the leader – at least most of the time, because a good leader like Bielsa does not surround himself with only yes people.

You need no people as well that can challenge and ask questions not always pleasant. So Bielsa for me has created a working environment that holds all this.

He has changed our game and even though ball possession does not fit an old school center-back like myself I take my hat off my sweaty head as the ball goes back to Kiko…again. Please my nerves boys!

Thanks to all the good folks, from Andrea Radrizzani to the boys, girls, men and women in the stands, that give me hope for another golden age for the club in our hearts. Leeds.
