Leeds appeared to be cruising towards their first win since promotion back to the Premier League when racing into a 4-1 lead during Saturday's clash against the visiting Cottagers only to see a three-goal advantage quickly slashed to a one-goal lead.

United ultimately held on to record what was the club's first top-flight victory for 16 years but Klich says his side were guilty of letting Fulham back in and will work hard to ensure that the season's first clash at Elland Road acts as a big lesson learned.

"I think it was a very entertaining game for supporters watching on the TV," said Klich, speaking to the BBC.

"Unfortunately we let them back into the game and that was our mistake, we shouldn't have done that and we are going to try and not do it again because we didn't need that."

One week after coming out on the wrong side of another seven goal-thriller at defending champions Liverpool, Leeds went ahead after just five minutes through Helder Costa.

Fulham's Aleksandar Mitrovic then equalised from the penalty spot in the 34th minute but Klich then converted a Whites spot kick seven minutes later to put United 2-1 up at the break.

Patrick Bamford then bagged United's third five minutes after the restart before Costa's second made it 4-1 but Fulham hit back with two goals inside five minutes through Bobby Decordova-Reid and Mitrovic with his second.

Klich added: "We should have just finished the game 4-1 but in the end we won and this is what matters.

"It was a very, very, very important three points.

"Obviously every three points are going to be very important in this league and this is our first one so I hope we will build on that."

Leeds are back in action on Sunday with the Premier League Yorkshire derby at Sheffield United in a 12 noon kick-off at Bramall Lane.

The Blades are yet to pick up a point.
