Mark Lawrenson brands Leeds United 'fabulous' and makes Man City scoreline prediction

Leeds United are involved in arguably the most anticipated Premier League fixture this weekend, when they play host to Manchester City on Saturday evening, in what should be an enthralling spectacle between two sides famed for playing high-octane football.

Writing his weekly predictions column for BBC Sport, Mark Lawrenson was full of praise for Marcelo Bielsa's side despite backing City to win 2-1, and claimed: "Leeds are still strengthening their squad but the one thing you can be sure about with all of their signings is that they can run. A pre-requisite for all of their players seems to be that they can cover some ground.

"Marcelo Bielsa's side have been fabulous so far and it is going to be fascinating to see how he approaches this game against Pep Guardiola's Manchester City. Guardiola will have a plan too, of course, but both coaches have a mutual admiration of each other."

He concluded: "I am expecting it to be a very good game. A lot of teams show massive respect to City and sit deep but I don't think Leeds will do that.

Meanwhile, Lawro's sparring partner for the week, Manchester City and Scotland midfielder Caroline Weir, opted for a 3-1 victory for the visitors.

The last time the two sides met in the Premier League, back in 2004, the Whites secured a 2-1 win over their opponents, with Stephen McPhail and Mark Viduka's goals seeing Eddie Gray's side move off the bottom of the table with the vital victory.
