Marcelo Bielsa sends signed Leeds United shirt to former Newell's Old Boys player Maxi Rodriguez

Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa has sent a signed Whites shirt to fellow Newell's Old Boys graduate and legend Maxi Rodriguez as a gift.

Rodriguez, who started his career with Newell's, hails from Rosario like Bielsa and is held in high esteem having been a loyal servant to his local team. The winger also featured across Europe for La Liga sides Espanyol, Atletico Madrid and will be familiar to Premier League followers for his spell with Liverpool.

The now 37-year-old made 197 appearances for Los Leprosos scoring 68 goals across two spells with the club which totalled seven years in the senior team and earned him legendary status in his home city.

Bielsa, who supported, played for and has managed Newell's to two Argentinian titles during his career recently donated £3million to the club for a brand new training complex.

The Argentine has now also sent a signed Leeds United home shirt to Rodriguez who recently celebrated winning the Uruguayan Primera Division title with Penarol over the weekend.

He tweeted: "Thanks to 'El Loco' Marcelo Bielsa for this gift."
