Argentinian outlet La Nacion have this week reported that Bielsa was "very close" to signing a new contract with the Whites but for two more years as opposed to one.

Bielsa initially joined Leeds on a two-year deal in June 2018 with United maintaining the right to extend or terminate the deal at the end of year one.

Whites chairman Andrea Radrizzani then exercised the option to extend Bielsa's contract for a second year following the club's heartache in the Championship play-offs of May 2019.

Leeds then stormed to promotion as champions in Bielsa's second season at Leeds, after which the Whites head coach signed a new one-year deal in September 2020.

The 65-year-old has transformed United's fortunes and Leeds now sit tenth in the Premier League table in Bielsa's third year in charge.

The Whites head coach has regularly stated just now much he is enjoying his role and life in Yorkshire but the South American says the reports in his native country about a new deal are wide of the mark.

"That information is not real," said Bielsa.

“I ignore the origin. Those things either the club can say or I can say. We are the ones who possess this information. And like in all the cases, if there was any information to give then I would give it.”
