After prolonged talks Bielsa signed up for one of the toughest projects of his career as he looked to help Leeds end a 16-year absence from the top flight in one of English football's biggest stories.

United were dealt heartbreak in the Championship play-offs at the end of Bielsa's debut campaign but the 65-year-old signed up for another term with little hesitation.

At the second time of asking, history was made - Radrizzani watching on with pride as his appointee led Leeds to the second division title in style, with a record points total.

Relief has been felt across the city since promotion was achieved and the Whites finally made a long-awaited return to England's elite. The club remain confident they will keep Bielsa at the helm for a third season with the priority now Premier League survival.

"He [Marcelo Bielsa] is the perfect fit," Radrizzani told Eleven Sports.

"He conquered an amazing achievement, not only in the result, but I think in terms of style of football, number of chances and possession.

"We hit first position in every single statistic. And for two years we've been at the top of this league which is very tough most of the time.

"For sure, he's the man that gave us what we needed. We needed to change the culture of this club.

"We need to build a culture based on hard work, sacrifice and beautiful football.

"And I think we have accomplished, with him, all of these objectives. So I'm very pleased with his job, I'm very grateful for him and what he delivered.

"Congratulations to him, but also hopefully he can rest because he's 65, he's not young.

"He needs to recover and hopefully guide us in the next chapter."
